One thing i did do about 2 months ago was make a decision to only play people over 1600. This included two banded 1600-1750 tournaments that i qualified for the second round in. I'm really surprised actually cos i was convinced i'd get knocked out in them all, but did really well. Had to resign a couple of games today (as they were hopelessly lost), I have one more that is probably lost as well, but the rest are looking pretty ok. It'll be a while before i'm a consistent 1800 though i feel... 🙂
Well done! 1800 is my rating target before the end of the year. How did you do it? Study or game experience?

games on tactical blunders. I think a big help is just to go over
the games, especially the ones you lose. I lost two in a row
to Jansax and played them over, I was almost feeling like he was
using an engine but I was just fooling myself, I saw in replay I
just made some stupid blunders which he used to his advantage
immediately. I happen to be playing him in two more clan games and
one of them I checkmated him and the other am up an exchange
so it certainly helped going over my first losses to him.

1. When you find a move, look at more than one or two replies, you'll make at least one less blunder a game doing this.
2. When you find a move that looks good, keep looking, you'll rarely find the best move first time.
Also, when you find a forced sequence of moves, look at the resulting position and try and work out if you need a piece somewhere to fulfill a tactical or postional objective. If this is the case, then prepare this move before you play the forced line (assuming this is possible). I've been doing this recently and it has resulted in some nice wins. 🙂
