So...here is what happens in the "real" world of Ms. Hakima, who just so happens to be a member of the North Texas Traditional Dance Society (NTTDS), which hosts traditional American (Contra) dances and the traditional dances of the United Kingdom and Ireland...
Typically, the dance before intermission and the final dance are waltzes. Although, the primary bulk of the dances are taught and called as they come up during the night, sort of leveling the skill levels of the dancers...waltzes are not called and it is difficult sometimes to know who can waltz and who cannot...
As a young girl, I was termed a wallflower (a "nice" term for a homely young girl who sat against the wall for the duration of the dance). As a grown woman, I determined that I would not be a wallflower again, so I learned to waltz...and rather than wait to be asked, simply escorted myself to the dance floor, partner-less and began to dance alone. Miraculously, each time I did this, it seemed a only a mere few minutes before some kind gentleman would join me on the dance floor, offer his hand and lead me through a dance.
Since those early days, I have always reserved the middle and last dances for myself, at least to start...and wait to see who appears in the moment. The dancers of NTTDS are used to my habit by now, and give me a few minutes space to warm up to the music before asking for those dances. In light of my wallflower history, it has been a lovely confidence booster for me. While I enjoy dancing with a partner, I am also content knowing that I never have to sit against the wall again...
So, I have reserved the beginnings of the middle and final dances of this virtual ball for myself and will be happily surprised to see what happens in the final steps of the last dance...

Dear Mr. Saint,
Your exuberance is flattering and refreshing... 🙂
I will gladly reserve a dance for you.

Any ideas on how to motivate the senior boys to begin inviting senior girls as GBS did with lolof?

Why do girls have to wait for boys to invite them? That was the whole point of the novel I just presented.
How about just hosting a "prom" that include everyone, whether they have a "date" or not...and consider it a success if everyone who attends has a good time?
It's what kids are doing these days and I think it makes more sense.

Votes cast may reflect the popularity of those students elected or their levels of participation in school activities, such as public forum contributions or achievements in the RHP Chess Club. Any Thumbs Down from a student too busy or timid to attend this memorable gala event will of course be ignored. The Prom Queen and Prom King may be given crowns to wear by Russ. JS, please see my reply to hakima on couples moments ago. Our format has evolved to 'modern' with total flexibility.
Edit: looking forward to it anyway.
Will there be chaperones? Can one of them be my sophomore English teacher? We did a reading of the Mikado and she cast me as Koko because, she said, I'd make a good lover. I had no idea what she meant.

The OP posed the question: "Will we need chaperones and if so whom?" Your "sophomore English teacher" who thought/thinks so highly of you would be an ideal candidate. Would a second chaperone make sense considering the sheer size of our global gathering? I happen to have considerable regard for you. -Bob

When I was in HS in rainy times in Florida, during phys ed, whenever it was raining, we had dance class in the gym. The two step, the Bossa Nova, and the Cha Cha Cha. And the the female teachers seemed, in retrospect, to be especially interested, even participating on the sidelines. They were simpler times, even if the motivations were not simpler.
