Besides the obvious cheater there are now 6 players over 2100! I recall when i got here there were only 2 players over 2000 and only 5 over 1900 plus about 10 between 18 and 19.

Interesting ...

It's the same as with the real FIDE ratings I suppose ... 50 years ago, not a single player was rated over 2750 and now we have a few (and Kasparov is even over 2800 ...)

I think like with money, there is a slight inflation in ratings too

i think that is fairly inevitable due to the cummulative nature of the ratings.
the ratings on chessworld have pushed through 3000 i believe.
people are probably playing more too.

i remember when i joined....there was a huge "WOW" when the top 20 was filled with everyone above 1700, to get on the top 20 map, 12000 would have done and i was in the top 200 players (197 with a rating of 1456)...and i thought i was getting worse. Ill use the excuse that there is just more better players on the site that can wip my ass!!

Well done if you are one of them 😛

I remember when Bessyboo was no.1 in the 1,700s. Schliemann was no.1 for a long time and I don't think he ever cracked 2,000 here. Does anybody remember who the first person over 2,000 was? Was it Bbarr?

The first person over 2000 was sintubin, I believe. Tebb was the first over 2100, and Dantes the first over 2200 (briefly).

If I'm not mistaken, I was no.75 (or so) at one time with a rating comparable to what I have now. But now I'm wallowing at no.400.

It depresses me to see two guys aged 21ish to be in the top 20. Surely they should have been out discovering women and alcohol instead of mastering chess during their teenage years? Maybe it's just me being jealous of their ratings though........!😵

I think peoples rating is dependant on how many people use the site. For someone to achieve a 2100 rating, they have to beat players that are of equal strength (other 2000+ rated players). If there are only 1 or 2 people rated that high, the prospective player would have to beat 1700-1900 players over and over, getting only a couple of points for each win which obviously takes ages. Once there is a core of players at this rating (as there is now) it is possible for prospects to play these higher rated players for their rating. A 1900 rated player beating a 2100 rated player gets 30 odd points for the win, accelarating their rise to the top.

Over the next couple of years the rating board will, i predict, rise up to 2300, as the number of super high rated players increases, so will the highest rating, they go hand in hand...

My question is who is the obvious cheater?

huththa123; 41 wins, 0 loses, 0 draws.

Had a look at his/her previous games and im not convinced they are cheating. 20 or so of those games are against players under 1500 whisch is tatally do-able. The rest, well, whatever.....
