Guesses so far today have included: 'bath', 'electric razor' (even though it's been guessed at least once before) and 'washing machine' (!!). The presenter said that 'shower' is "fairly warm" but 'bath' was closer, and in fact, 'bath' is the closest yet. Now if only I can be the 50th ruddin' caller in the hour so I can get through and say 'tap'!!
Originally posted by iamatigerIndeed. I'd settled on 'pit toilet' but couldn't get through. Convinced my boss that 'flush toilet' was the wrong answer. Then someone calls up and says 'flush toilet'? Presenter says it's the wrong answer but part of it is in the actual answer. Next person calls up and says 'toilet brush'. Which it wasn't. Erm, obviously. The next person who manages to get through was my boss's husband! She'd, long before this, on the back of my suggestion to her, had convinced him that the answer is 'pit toilet'. If he'd won we probably would have split the money between him and those in the office who had also been trying to call up with 'pit toilet' as the answer. He says 'pit toilet'. Alas though, the presenter says wrong answer but partly correct. After further inane answers like "public toilet" etc somebody eventually says 'outside toilet'. Baddabing, we have a winner, leaving that person with over £2,500 and us worthy intellectuals who thought the answer was 'pit toilet' with nuffink. Nothing except the thought that if 40% use an outside toilet, and approx. 15% use a flush toilet, then 45% have nowhere to go.
I've been wracking 10% of my brain for a single object thet the 40% with inadequate sanitation as defined at http://www.wssinfo.org/en/122_definitions_en.html
must all use every day.
The best I can come up with so far is "A Hole in the ground"

The link I gave above made it reasonably clear that many outside toilets would be considered as acceptable sanitation, 40% of the world have unacceptable sanitation, therefore the number of people using outside toilets every day must be greater than 40%

(Even with that being so, it still doesn't square with the evidence contained on the link I posted earlier in the thread so grrrrr all round).

A lady with a screaming baby in the background was the victor.
Apparantly the previous "Impossible Question" was: "If one baby is born every three seconds, how many will be born in 2005?"
