Ray,
My guess is that he will refuse to make a move against you, because it would expose him to be the fraud that he is. I challenged him as well, as did silver24. Let's see if he decides to play.
And Fievel - I realize that you were joking when you said he's taking your #19 spot, but I think you're absolutely right. You worked hard to get in ...[text shortened]... he top 20, it's not fair to you or anyone else that someone can get there by cheating.

Originally posted by lionelI think what he meant was that someone who is willing to cheat to put themselves into the top 20 is probably willing to cheat and use a program against an actual opponent. I thought about that too. Oh well, I'll take my chances. He hasn't responded to the challenge yet.
I don't know of any chess program that can win everytime in less than 10 moves unless you are a complete idiot.π

Please correct me if I have got it all wrong.
Cheats are cheats. We have to accept they exist.
Do we spend time seeking them out?
Are they really worth it?
To me no.
They only have fig leaves because they don't wan't us to see they are naked.
So If some fig gets higher than me?
It dose not in anyway dimminish how I feel.
I'll be back tomorrow.
Figs can figure it out for themselves.
Originally posted by missleadOf course you're absolutely right, Linda. It's just extremely frustrating to work hard and try to improve your rating, and then see someone who has artificially boosted theirs. The net result doesn't change anything, I don't have delusions of being in the top 20 so it doesn't directly affect me at all. It's just the principle that bothers me, I guess.

Running
Stop it.
Time to enjoy now.
Linda.
Boby,
To answer your "problem" I'll also adress what mislead and a few others mentioned. If gerbear is using a program why should that stop me (or other decent chess players) from challenging him? Personally, I don't mind playing a computer (as long as I know it is a computer) because i play the game and I can only win or lose but I enjoy the game anyway. If gerbear wants to cheat, the ONLY effect it has on me (and everybody rated less then him) is to push us one spot down on the players "ladder."

Feivel
I see gerbear is at it again. After about a month he's now "won" a couple more games against noggin head and (at 1760) is just under the top 20.
I wonder whether it was the comments in this thread that led to the pause in activity, or whether it was just to give noggin head (and the other identity he uses, forgotten the name) to harvest some more ratings points?
Also makes you wonder who he thinks he's kidding, and how he gets his kicks?
cheers,
Martin

Hey everybody, want to see something pathetic? Check out the games of 'gerbear'. For an illustration of how poorly he actually plays chess, check out his one loss:

Apparently he prefers to play with himself.

This may be, but it doesn't explain why he has endless strings of games where the opponent resigns after the first possible move where resignation would award points to Gerbear. Or 30 or 40 games in a row against the same person ending in scholar's mate.

Why would someone quit only 2 or so moves into a game other than reasons already expressed in this thread!?
I also bet that line "fools mate?" is somewhere in one of gerbears games...
