I think they were actually just cutouts of Woody Woodpecker and his "significant other".

Binoculars hundred yards or so from the wooded area. Sans photos insufficiently verifiable

to claim the Cornell, Ithaca, NY, prize. Second sighting in ten years pleased him anyway.

Do you speak Dutch, French and German (as well as English) all fluently?

Does your friend know the difference between an ivory-billed woodpecker (extremely rare
if not extinct since 1944) and a pileated woodpecker (similar and seen from time to time in
these parts)? The Cornell Lab website has pictures.

Unsure, Andy, but will pass your caveat. Thank you.

Seriously.. if he found a genuine ivory-billed, that would be a major news story.

Nice touch of an act of random kindness at the post office this morning. Needed an extra large Priority Mail shipping box and a roll of heavy duty strapping tape. During the transaction, postal counter person Jennifer gave me an update on her mom's auto accident recovery status. Few minutes later, in the car about to drive home, a young black lady opens the post office door and makes a beeline toward my car with the box I'd left on the floor leaning against the counter. Thanked her and said, "Nicest thing that's happened to me this week so far". We laughed. She turned back to wave as she went on her way.

Glad you're home from your travels, Darvlay, and back in town where you belong.

Perhaps we can have an enjoyable conversation and chess game later in the year.
