Hi folks 🙂
I've been having problems with my Internet connection for the last few months, so planning another London Meet up hasn't really been an option.
HOWEVER, my problems appear to be over now. So, before i announce the date for the next event, i'd like to find out if there are any members who are already planning a visit to London from abroad. It has been something of a tradition at previous events to have a few people from overseas attending to represent the International nature of this wonderful community we have here at RHP.
I cannot promise i'll be able to satisfy everyone. The first year we did this there was a vote to decide the date. As much as democracy is important, from a logistical perspective it made planning the event much harder so i'm afraid i'll simply be deciding a date and people will have to make their own arrangements. However, i'd really like to get some foreigners involved so let me know if you are planning a trip some time in the new year and i'll see if we can arrange the event to coincide with your visit. 🙂
Cheers
James.

Originally posted by TyrannosauruschexWe do it in the same place each year. It is centrally located and is close to Kings Cross / Waterloo / St. Pancreas, etc... so coming from Europe or the UK is easy. If people are planning to travel a long way let me know as we have arranged cheap accommodation at previous meets for people who've travelled far.
Will you make it near a tube station so it is gettable to?
I dont generally like going to london but I might be tempted if it was going to be a big meet up - I could tie it in with visiting some others that I know as well to cut the costs of making multiple journies.
Originally posted by TyrannosauruschexDrinks in London are more often £3 or more these days. It sucks but what can you do? This venue has proven a very good one in the past. The manager went splits on our food last time and is a really nice guy. They provided chess sets and clocks for us, cleaned up our mess and were generally spot on with the whole thing so they've definitely earned repeat custom in my view. I don't remember the drinks being extortionate, to get cheaper drinks would mean losing the travel connections and chess materials which are far more important...
Have you ever been able to negociate any sort of special drinks deals? I remember one time in london I paid something like £2.80 for a pint but somebody told me that they get even more expensive then that in the centre.
Man, I will have to take out a second mortgage on my house to buy drinks at that sort of price. Still, I can always get tanked up drinking cans on the train down.... Although, having said that, maybe I should be sober for a bit of the time so I get a few wins in the games.
Who are the best members at these meet ups?
Originally posted by TyrannosauruschexWell there's me obviously...😏 Gambit05 came last year, sicillian smaug and fair few 1700-2100 players. Plenty of healthy competition, though generally it's not too competitive. It's more about drinking and hanging out. 😉

Originally posted by TyrannosauruschexI think we're going for a little more of a 'family' image with this thing so pimping is probably not the best idea. Feel free to bring anyone you like though, the more the merrier. 😀
I might be able to supply a few girls, what is the going rate for pimping in london? I bet I could make a fortune.
