Why is it always that me not being a subscriber to RHP, but a very active player, is a reason to use against me!
(e.g. http://www.redhotpawn.com/board/showthread.php?id=13203)

Are no-subscribers welcome to this site/forum, or should it just become a members-only site/forum?

Use your common sense. You have played nearly 200 games and nearly 6000 moves. You are also vocal in the forums making suggestions for changes to the workings of the site. Before I subscribed I wouldn't have dreamed of posting suggestions for changes in the forums. Maybe, I'm wrong about this but for this site to continue to thrive then surely there must come a time when users have to make some kind of committment and subscribe.

Very well put.
If someone is heavily using RHP it's convenient to subscribe so the many features become available (unlimited games, clans, tournaments).
Compared to other sites the price is dirty cheap so what are you waiting for, subscribe!😉

Of course you and other non-subscribers are welcome. A commitment to RHP would be just as welcome if not more.

Of course, non-subcribers are welcome. I was a non-subscriber myself for over 6 months. As a non-subscriber you are happy to be playing at the best online chess site for free, slightly frustrated that you can only play 6 games at a time, not take part in tournaments or start and join any clans.

Let's face it $19.99 a year is pigeon feed (that's 0.0547 cents a day) and once non-subscribers have clocked up a number of games / moves and started to suggest changes in the forums then it seems right that they are encouraged to subscribe.

Russ recently posted some shocking stats and it turns out that RHP currently has less than 1500 subscribed members - that's approx £16,560 a year to run this site and rather than see annual subscription go up for those that bother to pay, I would hope that the many, many, other users of this site consider subscribing while the price is very affordable.

Couldn't agree more with both posts Exy ...

Fylgia, you have played 6000 moves which is more then some pawn-stars...

Cough it up The price is ridicioulsy low for what is on offer.

Unless you have some very good reasons, you should become a subscriber or consider leaving RHP as lets face it, Russ is not making any money of this site anyway and people like you are simply a burden to the system and to Russ income (which he very well deserves considering all the great work and I believe hours he is putting into this)...

So, do we see a star soon ??

Come on, people. There's a reason people are allowed to play for free. Telling non-subscribers to "cough it up" isn't likely to encourage them to join, is it?

I totally agree with you.

It's a great thing offering a limited free service. Maybe the person in question is already a member of 20 different sites and one more would bankrupt him. Who are we to judge?

Besides, a non-paying member may have a different slant on various things because of a from of non-partiality. That should be respected too.

Agreed. But non-subscriber's should also respect that they are getting a damn good service for free, albeit limited and as a non-subscriber posting suggested changes in the forums may rankle us paying members.

If it matters so much the site would change so that it was a trial period for free then you had to pay or not play...

But it isnt, not everyone can pay or would be willing to pay for what ever reason and at the moment that is allowed on this site, so please stop whining. People talk about the community on this site - who says u have to pay to be a member of it?

Why should you care if it is a good suggestion that would benifit you?

Because the suggestion is asking for Russ and Chris to do more free work. I would think that people would have more common sense and courtesy to know that when you're not contributing you aren't in a position to ask for more.
