Also hard to fall asleep when you are camping in King's Canyon CA (US) and a black bear is sniffing around your campsite and TENT! The ranger said not to worry, but of course he is miles away and safe at his station!
Grizzly bears I would worry about, if you are seen as a threat to them or their babies, they will definitely go after you. Again, you are not food but you can be a threat.
I have a funny story about my husband's hunting trip last year. He was way off in the mountains and hunting elk. So he was calling on the elk bugle to get them to come in, and there was one calling back to him. It was getting very close and he was getting ready to shoot as soon as it came through the trees. But what came through the trees first was a mountain lion that obviously was listening to his elk bugle and thought he was an elk. Well, he never did get the elk because the cat scared it away.
So, don't be calling elk unless you want mountain lions also!

🙂 It was a wonderful walk. Nothing is like the light of the low sun shining through the trees. http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=25120&l=9d0de&id=802830955
