This letter must be removed! We've all seen it literally a hundred
times now and I often have to see it TWICE before I get to my game!
There is a loop of sorts.
It's a terrible nuisance and everyone has already seen it many, many
times. It is time for it to go.

I'm in total agreement with you hypermo2001. Chris and Ruzz should
be able to give us a great site with their own time and money. They
should give us what we want when we want it and should say nothing
about anyone mooching off them. I'm sure they have nothing better
to do anyway. :-\ Life isn't always a free ride!

P.S. If we take bessyboo seriously though they do have some fringe
benefits!! :-)

goodknight:
sarcasm and stupidity are a bad combination..try not to mix them in
the future.

drives 24 hours per day seven days per week!

The letter was simply meant to raise awareness. It was a first
attempt - it's not designed to annoy anyone - in fact I tried to make it
as easy as possible to move to the next game as soon as the screen
comes up. We'll probably review the way we present this information
at some point but we have no immediate plans to change it.

Personally, I think your website is setup very well.

My thought is that if anyone is annoyed by anything on your site, they
have expectations that are unrealistic. To me, annoyance is a sure
sign that the complainant’s understanding of your efforts and time
commitment to RHP is quite limited. I would hope that such short
sightedness would not transfer to their chess games.

Don't guess I meant for it to be as sarcastic as it sounded. I happen
to be a programmer and have an idea as to the time that goes into
this site.

Well i dont know how much it costs.

But i am aware of my server fee's. It costs me £14 a month for just the 1 shell
, i dont use anywhere near the bandwith this site uses , but i can guess . And
it isnt cheap at all.

I wouls love to contribute , but i am unempliyed , which is why i offered my irc
server as a place for all of you to gather. It wont cost me any more money.

Even though it can be hard work running a network/server it is my hobby and i
enjoy it.
I suspect even though they have their troubles & work they enjoy it also.

All they are asking for is a helping hand. And dont forget you dont have to
give money.. Perhaps you have something you can offer that you dont need / have
something spare. Or some skill you can offer.

Theres allways another way to conribute. If you enjoy it do it :-)

Hi VM,

Would love to get the chat room going ASAP, if you could send me
some advice on the best way to organise this would be very much
appreciated (I realise I could probably figure it out myself but I can be
quite lazy when I need to be 🙂 )

For general information, if you are interested, the server costs us a
minimum of $215 per month plus additional bandwidth charges and
administration costs (as and when needed).

We love working on this site. Originally we had absolutely no intention
of asking for money of any kind (other than perhaps by sending
monthly email adverts to players who opted in on the registration
screen) but we haven't done this yet.

We have been stunned by the success of the site which is the only
reason we thought we would ask those who could spare it if they would
like to contribute - and, we have been stunned again by the response
to this - we never expected the generousity we have received.

We don't want anyone to think we're trying to bully people into paying -
for example, we wouldn't want any children to be put off because they
couldn't afford it! Any profit we make would be plowed back into the
site (for example by renting a more powerful server - our first server
was much weaker than this one).

I,m not familiar with "begging letter". I have used this site way more
than the value of my "Pawn Star". When I have some cash available I
intend to buy some "Red Hot Pawn" coffee mugs. Thanks RED HOT
Pawn.

Actions are better than words. I just placed an order for 4 coffee
mugs. Again, Thanks for the work you all put into this site.

You won't regret it - I got a couple myself and they are top quality!
It's a regret that they need to be so pricey, though.

🙂 - If only there were such fringe benefits... I'm afraid I'm going to
have to expose that part of bessyboo's profile as being nothing but a
fabrication. Unless Ruzz knows something I don't...

Greetings:
Well, i have never actually seen the "letter" or "page". I found this
place through a "Chess tactics, newsgroup". It came as highly
regarded, and, recomended; this is why i started playing here. And i
never looked back!! I enjoy playing here, in this " GREAT " site.
I am a " pawnstar " and i like being known as such. These guys work
for a living during the day...this is but a " part-time " thing. I ask you
all: " What will you do if they have to go offline through lack of funds;
they have regular jobs like the average Joe...what will we all do, if this
fails through lack of funds?? They are not begging!! they are simply
trying to sustian this place where we all play!! I ask you...would you,
the player, take their place, and try to run this with your own money??
You would find yourself broke in no time at all. It is up to us all to
make this place work. We all enjoy playing, and we all enjoy the
service that these two " very " kind blokes provide. What is a simple
matter of "$20"; you could make that in a morning for God's sake.
We have to make this good, so that we could teach the kids; they are
after all, what Chess will become after we go. Why not help here?? It
is the " game of Kings; we are all Kings"
When you become a " Star " you will always be a " Star ". Plus, you will
have the chance to have the " Rival " chess game on your puter. It is
not perfect, but it could be. I don't like having to download openings,
when it should be incorporated in the original game. But, there is a lot
of reasons why you should. It is a good "engine"; it is not " Fritz" but,
it is good all the same. I love the " Chess Variants " that you can play
on this game, but, there is more that you could try. Do yourself a
favour, and get that little " star "; we all have to preserve the game
we love.
Hey, do you know what you would get?? You woulkd get a good Chess
programme, plus, the chance to learn frpom it, and, also, different
Chess games to play; these games are good...they are the beginings
of Chess as we know it.
Chris, and Russ...keep up the bloody good work. If i can help further,
then i will. When i get back online, and i get the puter i want...well, i
will have the server multi-processor; i will try and do the learning
pages. I don't know how to do it, but, i would like to do pages that
explained all the basic tactics, with moving boards, explaining things
such as, outposts...forks...family forks...pawn structure...pawn
chains...pins...skewers...x-rays...pawn progresion...Knight
domination...Bishop Domination. I would like to set up something that
would teach everything; all the basics. Everything!!
Slan...
Imp..
