Yes, Bach's Moonlight Sonata is such a popular favourite.

If I were you I wouldn't bother with the tests.
You were being sarcastic, right? I hope . . .

Beethoven wrote Moonlight Sonata not Bach.

Correct. Beethoven did not write Bach.

Nor did he write the "Moonlight Sonata". Perhaps you're thinking of Debussy.

Killers - Hot Fuss and first Franz Ferdinand album help my chess. So does Bartok piano stuff. Radio puts me off.

Beethoven did, in fact, write Moonlight Sonata. It's one of his most famous works. I can't believe an intelligent man of your caliber would make such a gross error. I provided a link just to give you a HEADS UP.

By the way, thanks for providing the link to the Bach music fest. I enjoyed the instrumental selections immensely.

Black sabbath, ozzy, soad, disturbed, ac/dc, judas priest, breaking benjamin, mudvayne, and any other metal i can get, it just sets you in a certain productive mood, i listen to it while doing math homework too, but for more easy sounding stuff try Led Zeppelin, still great rock, but less screaming

Beethoven didn't write "Moonlight Sonata", he wrote the sonata which later (after his death) was named "Moonlight Sonata" (this is also mentioned in both links you provided). A small difference, but big enough for a pedant like Bowmann.

Edit: Here's msteach's second (or actually first) link which was edited out, with an added "l" in the end to make it work: http://www.all-about-beethoven.com/moonsonata.html

don't fall for the stereotype, chess is a hard rock game!! kidding 😛 i like classical music. but when i am playing chess at home and not at work, i usually play my guitar and provide my own music. it relaxes me and helps me concentrate more. which i probably why i do so much better when i play at home
Hey wow, i do that too!! It's amazing actually, the two go well together. There is a lot to be said for playing a guitar while you play chess. Chess requires rhythm and harmony in much the same way as music does. Achieve it with one and your mind is set up to achieve it in the other.

That said, i like to listen to Psychedelic Trance while i play as well. Not to mention Jimi Hendrix, Bob Dylan, Jethro Tull and occasionally blues radio.

How about this: he DID in fact write the sonata, which later became to be known as the Moonlight Sonata. In our current generation, it is accepted that Beethoven was the originator of the Moonlight Sonata regardless of when it was named or who gave it the name. Anyone well-versed in classical music, knows that Beethoven wrote the Moonlight Sonata. Period.

No. Those who believe he wrote the Moonlight Sonata are the type of people who own recordings like "Switched-On Bach" or "Pop Goes Paganini".

Now, Debussy's Claire de Lune carries the composer's own title (so far as I know).
