@lemondrop saidI hear it can be quite hazardous to one's health.
I'm amazed at those who can do it
I never could
any stories or hints at how it's done?
Not quite as impressive, but I do sometimes play eyepatch chess.

but ghost
can you do it?
It would be interesting to find out how many players here can actually play blindfold
I'm sure the duchess could
@lemondrop saidThere was a guy in our Chess Club who could do it played 3 players lower rated between 1200-1400 and beat all three using black in all three games. He gave them their choice and of course they wanted white pieces. His rating was always over 2100 and he did go into the 2200's which is GM rating. We would play in tournaments and sometimes there would be 5 sometimes 6 depending if it was a holiday week-end.

He would come to the club and show us all his games without having the games marked did them all from memory. I've never seen anyone like him. I believe he was the Top player in Nova Scotia at one time. I haven't seen him in years.

@moonbus saidI was thinking may have an eidetic or Photographic memory he can see the positions in his mind and hold on to them, amazing to do 3 all at once and win them all even against lower rated players. I was quite impressed, if I wasn't there to see it I would never have believed it. He even blindfolded himself so no one would think he was being given signals by someone.
I do not know how it is done, but I have played against a player who did not see the boards (2 simultaneous games).

@lemondrop saidI remember playing a fellow student at secondary school without a board.

(i.e. both playing blind). We used to do it on school coach trips.
Somewhere between 10 & 15 moves we would
have an argument as to where the pieces were!
@wolfgang59 saidWe also did it at school. We had a third person with a board who would call out if we tried to make an illegal move...3 illegal moves and you are out 😉

This could really help my rating!

@Very-Rusty
Well one thing, 2200 is national master level GM level starts around 2500. But he still shows great visualization skills.
