@eladar saidwe only have a finite number of nhs personel Boris did open 3 fake hospitals (the nightingales) never maned or used.I hava a friend that works in the ICU at james cook hospital in middlesbrough he writes a blog no more surgeons, at the moment they are down to 1 covid icu but at the peak had 5 most people that had to be ventelated 80% did not recover, thing he says are a bit brighter and most covid patients are anti-vaxers or elderly immuno comprimised.my son works in a hospital in northampton and at its peak whole wards were dying.
In the US Trump opened temporary hospitals when numbers got big. I suppose the UK is unable to do what Trump could do.

@ogb saidThanks to what has been an amazing vaccination program over here, the UK now has a very low number of hospitalisations and hardly any deaths. Although infection numbers remain notably robust. Those who are hospitalised or dying with covid are mostly the unvaccinated or the elderly and infirm.
so things are looking up ? good news...

@mercury saidI think they were set up with good intentions, but the hospital is not just the beds and the buildings, you also need the staff to run the increased capacity. The NHS has dealt badly with serious recruitment and retention issues in nursing for years and the staff just weren't there, requiring the existing hospitals to be flooded with COVID when things were at their worst, rather than being able to do as much with temporary hospitals as hoped.
Fake hospitals?
After SARS the government was warned by public health professionals that current levels of staff would have been a serious issue if that had become a pandemic. They were also warned about a lack of stockpiled PPE. They addressed neither.
@relentless-red saidI also think the hospitals were built with the best intentions, rather than being fake. The UK is in a position of great strength in terms of covid risk management due to the vaccination strategy. Hats off to all who led and executed it.

@mercury saidYes, a really strong reaction to the situation with a great vaccination programme.

It kind of illustrates how the human race seems to muddle along (when it does). Limited preparation and anticipation, great last ditch reaction once it hits the fan and it's almost out of control. After ignoring all the warning signs I hope we get there with climate change. We got there just in time in terms of ending the cold war, or did we...

@relentless-red saidOver here we are into campaigning for a federal election happening on Sept 20th. A certain party leader is saying that he wants to spend billions on training 7,500 new doctors, nurses and nurse practisers. Isn’t it amazing how those kinds of “commitments” seem to occur after the fact and in an election period?🤔😢😉

@great-big-stees saidHope you have a very strong heart GBS, just in case they get something done after all theses decades of promises.

I am not counting on a hell of a lot getting done to be honest.
