My mom and grandma went to Ireland to trace our family name, McCart and found it went back to a dude in around the year 400 named Mac Art, a local king, Cormac Mac Airt according to this Wiki:

Supposedly one of the best kings of ancient Ireland.

My guess is, although someone back then took on that name that lives on today as the McCart's, I would be more apt to believe it was a family in service to the king that swiped the name to give the kid some street cred....
