I certaintly think it does. Look at footballers. You know why the game is so popular? Because its a good game AND its cheap to buy a football. If Im right, people who are poor, they aren't educated properly thus they argue at the referee saying UCK UCK. I cant even imagineMagnus Carlsen or Gary Kasparov doing such things.
If you are saying having a PHD in math is an advantage in chess play, you're wrong IMO
I used to maul one of the local math profs. He played ok, but had no idea of standard theory etc.

there is no ref in chess, there's a board, 32 pieces and the rules are clear. soccer and football on the other hand have human referees who make human errors and it's well within the rights of the player to complain if the ref makes a mistake. plus in tournament otb chess were there is some sort of arbitrator i'm sure it's not uncommon that xe is called in to sort out a dispute between two players.
