You're neglecting to take into account emergencies, deaths of relatives, etc. However, if the person is purposely making you wait for no good reason, then yes, I see the validity of your statement.

Originally posted by WildfireI dont consider it as putting myself down... I'm not ashamed and know that with lots of practice maybe I will get the hang of it but its like most things the more you do it the better you get...so play on play on... I honour vacation flags and allow a little consideration time then its my game if my opponent chooses not to move...whatever the reason
No need to keep putting yourself down by calling yourself a crappy player, we all were crap once, and we all can get better with practice.
In all honesty, I think I've timed out maybe three players in all my time here, and I was in winning positions in all of those; as usual players who moved like winged Mercury when winning slowed to a subatomic crawl when losing, which is their indisputable right. As I say, I don't mind waiting, I'm very patient, but equally, the rules are the rules, no pity hangs in this eye.

Don't give them extra time. This is correspondence chess...they should have plenty of time to think and move....unless they have a vacation flag up.......
just today in fact i got a message from someone i recently timed out-it was full of swear words and everything and saying that just cos he left for the weekend i shouldn't have timed him out. but in my defense he didn't message me, or put a note on his profile to say he was out for the weekend, or put on his vacation flag. and i saw in his history that he has timed out others when he has been in a worse position (as i was). since joining the site, i believe you should either time out no one or everyone, and i've decided on the latter.

Originally posted by WildfireIn these cases I would think that being timed out on a chess game would not be high on their list of priorities . If it is then a simple pm , putting the vacation flag up , or posting something on the forum only takes a minute .

Originally posted by WildfireIf someone lost a relative, I doubt they'll care much about forfeiting a chess game or two. Just don't lecture them about not moving and you'll be spared the embarrassment.

Originally posted by The Whistling TealYour opponent should be the one who feels guilty. Since you're not the best chess player you should write in your profile: "I do not take timeouts. Enjoy the game" And you should catch a few people off gaurd, raising your numbers.
i have just joined the site. how bad is it considered to wait for the skull icon to show up and then claim a win? i am a very weak player and need all the help i can get, but i'm feeling guilty already.
