last I heard people in the UK were running deisel cars on used vedgeable fat from deep fat fryers. Unfortunatky, being in the engine business, without the necessary addtives I bet that this worked great for a few hundred miles but then their engines seized up. Done properly, with proper research, vedgtable oil could be a viable feul source.
But you' ...[text shortened]... all we have to worry about is th epolution cause in extracting the hydrogen in the first place.
There is one major draw back - the smell from the exhaust pipe! ;-)
In the UK there appears to be a number of people doing this (quite a fad a few months ago). The main reason for this was not ecological (i.e. re-using resources) or anything so noble, but to try and avoid the duty charged on fuel! (high in UK).
Unfortunately the goverment/police were not that far behind and if your car smelt like a mobile chip pan, you could expect to be pulled and fined!!

Nah, oil has to be right out for next generation.
What happened to cold fusion?
Car battery sized fusion generator providing enough power for a jet.
Nice and clean. Even the waste is stable if I remember my physics properly.
