If I had a drawer for socks it would be "socks drawer" or if I had one [drawer] for each sock, it would be "sock drawer". πŸ˜•

Do you have separate biscuit tin for each of your biscuits?

I keep old chess games in my drawers -
I have a Win drawer, a Lose drawer and (you guessed it) a draw drawer

There are differences and exceptions - not everything can be treated the same way in the english language.

If you had a database with games all using the same opening, how would you describe it compared to one with many different openings? [there's lots of witty answers but what is the real answer?]

I actually think it can be both -
a chess database of various openings = openings database
a chess database of the opening = opening database.

a chess ...[text shortened]... se of various openings = openings database
a chess database of the opening = opening database.
If I had a database with games all using the same opening, I'd call it after the name of the opening. If I had several databases, each of which would be about a specific opening, I think I'd probably say something like "I have databases for different openings", rather than saying "several opening databases", which would sound to me like several databases which most likely would all contain several different openings.

Google has a lot more results for "opening database" than for "openings database":
Resultater 1 - 10 av ca. 60 400 for "opening database".
Resultater 1 - 10 av ca. 4 340 for "openings database".

It seems that most people who keep their socks in drawers use one drawer per sock. πŸ˜‰

Proves what? That people have too many drawers and/or too few socks?

I get a bag full of socks every Christmas. . . But there are no draws in my house.

I got Christmas socks from my not-so-secret-anymore-Santa last year (meaning 2005). πŸ™‚ But I didn't get any drawers, so they are on my socks shelf.
