@divegeester saidlets face it you never had any taste.
Who else here has had it or got it?
So far I don’t feel that my life is in danger but it’s not pleasant of course.
Flu like symptoms but also different, kidney ache at night keeping me awake, drinking lots of fluids. At the height of the symptoms I would be in bed in the night and it seemed like the virus was rampaging around my body pressure testing various parts ...[text shortened]... ike flu on fast-forward. Sense of smell and taste completely gone.
Isolating until next Tuesday.
@ponderable saidNah, it’s closer to 1%, some believe even lower than that due to the number of cases not reported, especially in the first few months when only people in hospitals had a test.
In fact:
*people do die from Covid
* nobody ever claimed that mortality was 100%, it is quite clear that it is more around 2% which is a big enough number, but of course MOST people don't die.
* treating Covid by respirators does reduce mortality.
Making fun of Covid measures is an utter disrespect about people who really suffered and those who lost loved ones.
Oh: And take it to Debates!
The real question is it/was it so deadly to close the entire planet? I don’t believe so.
Had it in March 2020, wasn’t pleasant for a week or so but nothing major.
@trev33 saidYou were one of the lucky ones with an inbuilt ability to fight the virus. Closing down the planet slowed down the spread of the virus resulting in fewer people needing admission to hospital. The bigger picture is that when hospitals are overwhelmed by Covid millions of other people desperate for hospital treatment for other reasons are turned away. Eg, my friend, a nurse, now out of work for 8 months as her pain clinic appt keeps getting postponed. Now on half pay, anticipating unpaid sick leave if it continues another 4 months.

@divegeester saidI have had it. Second week was the worst for me. I believe that is fairly typical. It's good to isolate but remember not to leave it late seeking help if you get in difficulties. I heard that a good rule of thumb is that when you can't hold your breath for 20 seconds it's time to get help. Also I understand that some people are overlooking the possibility of secondary bacterial infection. If your cough becomes productive of yellow or green phlegm an antibiotic will help. We have primary care COVID hubs up here for things like that so you probably have something similar locally.

Remember the vast majority simply get better. Remember my account is shared by my cat and I disclaim any responsibility for well, anything really.
@relentless-red saidYou sound like the character, Sergeant Schultz, from the 60s TV show, Hogan’s Heroes.😉

@great-big-stees saidJust googled that. Ouch.

@relentless-red saidInteresting on the 20 seconds thing, I was fine.

I think I’ve had it pretty mild compared to some. I’ve been ill for a week in total and day 4 was the worst by far. Feeling no worse on day 5, a little better day 6, and today I’m back at 85% I’d say.
Vaccine must have helped, although Trev had it a week with no vaccine I believe.
@divegeester saidGood evidence that the vaccine has halved the numbers with long COVID, but of course that means people still get it. I had it for about six weeks after picking it up at Wembley despite double jabs. Only just getting back into my normal level of exercise now although that is partly because I chose to build up slowly. The important thing though is that it is decreasing hospitalisations and deaths.

@great-big-stees saidMy best bet is it will out live both you and I and many more on this site.
This thinking is not rocket science but until countries currently unable to have access to the vaccines have them and Dole them out”, Covid will be with us for some time.😥
I am very concerned for my children, grand-children, great grand children, and great, great, Grand children. Maybe one of them in those generations will come up with something better than we have now.

@very-rusty saidI wouldn’t worry about your great grandkids and beyond, your DNA should be well diluted by those generations.

@divegeester saidAs will yours, perhaps the drinking part will be gone from them, providing you have any great, great, grandchildren!
