You keep the dog in the crate over ...[text shortened]... e there are plenty of good on line resources. My dog is now trained so I've forgotten a lot.
Our family have always had pets and we've never had to do this. Traditional methods of providing paper on the floor or taking the dog out for exercise a couple of times a day seemed to work well for us. That must be about 30 dogs over the years and throughout the family. I don't know anyone that has used a cage to house train a dog.

Well his initial traing went perfect. This is a problem he has developed in the last week or so. He goes on two walks a day of over a mile each time. I'm not a huge fan of the crate method, but it does work. The problem is he isn't going when I let him out for the finale at night. The place he picked in the basement is troublesome. I do control his food intake i.e. no food after 7pm. The crate isn't done as punishment it is to control his access to the house while I sleep. He dosn't mind the crate there is no anxity about being in there. The method I used when he first moved in was to let him out frequently and give positive reinforcement which worked very well and fast.

You think he understands much of what you do?

Maybe he's wondering why you insist on living in his bathroom...

This is cruel. Whatever happened to love and patience? The dog obviously needs more attention and walks. He is bored and confused.

I bed to differ. Dogs spend a large amount of time sleeping...this is what they do. We primarily did this at night. In fact, most days, my wife took our dog to work as he was groing up (as this was allowed where she worked).

I agree, dogs need to be exercised at least once a day. My dog is not the one urinating in our house. I merely explained to someone what "crate training" is.
