He should read
The Complete Idiot's guide to chess

It tell you when you should resign. The guy said that it would be better to learn from your mistakes and move on to the next game.

I had felt like typing it hear from my book. And once you lose it is a waste of time to keep playing.

Check out this game he is still playing LOL.Game 849545

Let's analyse this thread...
kill king plays like a jerk...
Beorn lets everyone know as a courtesy...
everyone jumps on beorn as though he's done something wrong...
kill king posts a silly statement about playing for a stalemate in a truly hopeless position...
beorn gets called a baby...
freddie dreams about the olsen twins... ...[text shortened]... assume)...
wib insults darvlay calling him a low-brow wet blanket...

did i miss anything? 😉
You're up to speed. Although I believe RBHill has now posted...

Regardless of the position, no player should resign unless that is what the player wants to do.

Not what his opponent might want him to do to "free up a game" and not what a forum of people might do, or what anyone else might do in those circumstances.

For those who would say it is a common courtesy to resign, then how much of a courtesy is it to post a thread in a public forum saying how much of a bad player someone is? No courtesy at all.

Resigning a dead lost position with no chance of counterplay or a draw IS courtesy, good chess etiquette. There is no requirement for it, but it is still good etiquette. Exercising bad etiquette IS rude. When someone is rude to you, you are under no obligation to be polite in return. That is why Beorn's original post was acceptable, IMHO, and why I defended him/her. If you disagree, or just don't like it...too bad.

BLR

As long as its not checkmate, there is always a chance of a draw so that's rubbish.

I can't think of anything ruder than naming a player as being unsportsmanlike because he won't resign when u want him to. If you want to win that badly, then show that u deserve the win and checkmate your opponent. Simple as.

BTW: Beorn's original post isn't acceptable in my opinion, and it isn't in the eyes of the admins either, seeing as they got rid of a list (of one) of unsportsman players not to play before. Some ignoramus (not even my opponent) decided to start a campaign against me because I went 3 minor pieces down in a game, failed to resign and won the game. Its not nice. And its not welcome.

Not only that, there are now move suggestion in this thread for a game in progress. I think this is a lot more dangerous then not resigning.

I remember Chess for Dummies 6:90 'Thou shalt not fix thine pawns upon the same coloured squares as thine bishops.'
