Has anyone noticed that when you get on an elevator for the most part no one speaks to each other ? You just stand there in silence and it's sort of uncomfortable. The same things goes on here all the time. It's rare that some new opponent speaks during the entire game. I'm as guilty of this as anyone.
Originally posted by buckkyI have noticed this phenomenon too. If you are walking down a busy high street, you don't get complete strangers talking to each other. People are used to talking to each other when their invisible personal space is invaded so closely. I think, therefore, in a lift, the silence is more noticable due to everyone's close proximity to each other.

EDIT: Funny lift story.
They have lifts where I work. They have a posh recorded voice that says 'Lift going up, second floor etc'.
Last week I got in the lift and it was rather packed full of people. The recorded message started off with the usual 'Ninth floor, doors closing.....'. Then it said 'This lift is overloaded' as the doors slammed shut. I was happy to get out on the 5th floor in one piece.

The lift in my halls failed the other night, leaving 11 people (it's designed for up to 8) trapped between floors for two hours. To add to it, the lift engineers were completely hammered when they arrived. I'll have to ask one of the victims if they talked to each other during the experience.

I've found a vaguely satisfied, half smiling, stoned expression really puts people off. If anyone locks eyes with you, which they wil out of surprise, just say,"Mmmmm... Nice pants, wanna trade?"

Several months ago I had what was possibly the worst case of gas I've every experienced. Job stress, some bad chinese food and alcohol abuse were all contributors. The stench was unbelievable, so bad I had to sleep with a fan on me and the windows open as the smell actually woke me up. That Sunday I went to my wife's office to help out with some paperwork she was behind on. During the trip to the office, great fun was had with the child window locks even if my wife tells you different. At the office we took the elevator from the parking garage to the 6th floor. At about the third floor I let loose the most vile stench I have ever had the displeasure of being associated with. Silent but deadly. The noxious cloud that eminated from me tinged the air with an almost tangible fog. We burst from the elevator on the 6th floor and my wife subsequently vowed to divorce me if I didn't immediately have myself corked up. The worst part of this was that on the following Monday over a dozen complaints were made of a lingering "dead-rat smell" in one of the elevators. Thats staying power for you.
