Little Richard is still the man!
@drewnogal saidOne of my favourites too.
Great songs but Elton lacks that certain charisma - his wardrobe manager should have been fired! My favourite - George Michael joining him in Don’t let the sun go down on me.

Agree with the poster who said the first 9 or so albums were great, after that a decline in quality.
But when today's trendies dismiss him as a fat old never was, I would say listen to 'Tiny Dancer'
That is a tune!
You can reply to us and still not break ranks with the Chamberpot you know.

@divegeester saidA lot of great music from these two over the years, but they were overplayed on the radio IMHO. I've heard Elton John singles so many times I don't want to listen to them anymore, while my favorite (Mona Lisa's and Mad Hatters) was rarely played at all.
Always been a fan since I was I was a teenager. He and Taupin together wrote incredibly beautiful songs as we all know.
But what’s your thoughts on their contributions, both collectively and individually?
@mchill saidSometimes when we hear the same music but by other artists, the music comes to life again. I found that with ABBA songs - when Cheer picked them up they felt so much better. As you say, they felt a bit tired.

@divegeester saidYes, I see it was your mate who mentioned the first few albums. I simply started penning a post and couldn't be bothered looking back on who said what on the previous page.

I once replied in a good natured way directly to him, I think about Hall and Oates's fall into pop rubbish in the early 80's, and was met with a straight bat 'please don't approach me with false bonhommie ', or the like.
So I had a lucky escape here!
I fail to see any reference to you in my previous post. You being a dull, uninteresting poster and all that.
As for the last line of the quoted post, not a Scooby what you are going on about.
What did you think of 'Too Low For Zero'? Think it's the nearest Elton got to his 70s heyday (honourable mention to 'Sleeping With The Past'. )
@divegeester saidYep.
I would agree with you.
Luck, luck, lucky me.
Not to be destroyed by the wit from Cambridge (allegedly)
Maybe he can keep the thread alive by commenting constructively on Elton's later albums?
Ps..It is your thread. Why wouldn't you make some constructive comment on the two albums mentioned in my post 2 up?

@blood-on-the-tracks saidI didn’t read it, sorry. I really only like Elton’s early work and most of his later albums I’ve never bothered with.

I bought Too Low For Zero at the time as one of the songs was meaningful to a girlfriend at the time, but I’ve rarely played the album since.
