Yeah, when channel four had the rights, there was a great deal of use of Hawkeye, which could immediately show whether or not the batsmen was out. Unfortunately now Sky has the rights for the next 5 years!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 😠 we won't have a chance to see this. I don't believe in full time computer umpires being used, but the match referee should have the power to consult on decisions and consider whether the umpire was acting reasonably. Continued failure to stay impartial should mean a penalty. I also like Duncan Fletcher's idea of a specified number of referals to the computers per side per match to contradict the umpires, but as you say, that is another thread...

Jesus H. Christ!
I can swing the ball more than Hoggard!! You'd think none of SA batsmen has seen a little outswing before...

Tresco wass given not out by a much better delivery than the one that got De Villiers this morning.
That's just irritating!
And Anderson got Gibbs out LBW, so it comes around.
How can Bucknor be an "elite" umpire? He wasn't calling wide to balls which were too high over Harmison's head to hit, and he's 6'5" (I think).

Go Hoggy!
6-43!!
It's a shame that after such a good game, Bucknor will probably offer the light with one wicket to go and 10 overs left.
And Hoggard has Smith's number, too!

oooh and boje is gone, 35 overs to go - i think it is going to take bucknor with the light meter so save SA..

hoggard may not look like much but he has certainly done the business, 6 2nd innnings wickets so far. if england win got 2 give man of the match, ofcourse he wont get it coz of 180 by Tresco by he should.

smith still to bat so lets hope for the draw to make the last game exciting... (neutral supporter)..

hey werner, sorry misread the post thought you were saying the england top5 were a match for the Aussie top5..

who watch Clarke 90 odd against the Pakistan, jeez the boy can bat..

Naah, wasn't out. Getting a stride in should protect the batsmen.
But this is all beside the point. A 'bad' decision has precipitated a collapse, not the fact that bad / good decisions balance out over time.

Smith is in with Gibbs now, they're gonna have to show some guts to save this one. If Gibbs bats out I think he's gonna be man of the match - 161 and a 100 odd to save the game.

Hoggard has been the surprise package this series. He has taken alot of wickets and has been a stalwart for the english team.
I thought it was gonna be the Harmison show before the series started.

And yet another dodgey decision by umpire Dar may just have cost SA any chance of saving the match.

I wish I had a Digital TV! I seriously need to argue about these decisions with you, but I don't know what they are! 😉

No need to argue, I'm always right! 😉
Giles got Gibbs LBW. Gibbs got as good a stride in as is humanly possible and the ball hit low on the pad. No way the umpire could make a genuine decision.

left arm off spin over the wicket (if he was bowling over the wicket) to a right hander should rarely be given out, because

1. if pitches leg stump line then the spin should take it past off.
2. if pitches outside leg then it can not be out.

and giles does not posses a top spinner or a flipper so with a good stride gibbs should have been safe.

all that said i did not see it, so can not really make the call.
werner will take your word for it until i watch the highlights.

He was bowling around, but a good stride should protect the batsmen.
The rules state that the umpire must be sure the ball would have hit the stumps. Period.
Gibbs was not out.
