Wouldn't it have been better to get the visa before paying a deposit?
I never had any problems with the esta website, they even sent me an email saying when it was going to expire and if I wanted to renew it.
As for getting a visa before paying for the holiday that's difficult as the ESTA application form wants to know where I will be staying and where exactly I will be arriving in the USA.
I'm going to cut my losses and plan a trip somewhere in Europe instead.

I tried 5 times and on the fifth try I was allowed to fill all of my information in only to be told that my passport number was no longer acceptable to complete the process. The only alternative was to book an appointment at the American Embassy in London at a cost of $160. It's not possible to speak to a human being over the phone at the embassy. The additional expense of getting to London etc would have cost almost £200.

I decided to cut my losses and cancel my holiday in Florida. I'm obviously a more dangerous 61 year old woman than I was ever aware of. 😕 I'll never book a holiday in the USA again.

No, no....Canada. We Canadians love the Welsh and most especially those with roots in Poland. 😉 Besides the weather here at the moment is hotter than those in Florida and our government is much more "solid" than those of any of the choices mentioned in this thread thus far and as an added bonus our dollar is low in relation to the US dollar.
