the bible is the truth, and everyone wants the truth, so everyone should want the bible...
The truth in the Bible is limited to a small geographic area a long time ago. It is false when it is put forth as general truth of any sort. It is, however, a good read at least the first several times through.

(Despite repeated effforts, I never succeeded in finding that any of the vocal Xtians on this site had ever read the text cover-to-cover. Something I highly recommend.)

followed by reading through the quran also, which will be an eye opener for many, if not most.

My God. . . One post happens to mention the bible and all of this happens.

In a vain attempt to direct this thread back toward it's original subject, E....hem. . . Some of my favourite reads.

"the Intimate History of Humanity" by Theodore Zeldin

"A Picture of Dorian Grey" by Oscar Wilde

Also

"The Long Walk"

"Shackleton"

I believe that my favorite literature was written by Russians. My favorite of them all? To tough to call.

I will say that I haven't read a better book SINCE I read Life and faith by Vasily Grossman.

That's a short story dumbass.

I liked "Atlas Shrugged" by Ayn Rand myself.
"Atlas Shrugged" could have been a short story too, if Ayn Rand hadn't felt compelled to beat you over the head with the message over and over and over again. 😛

LOL, that's true. It only took a month to read. Moral of the story: Dagny will sleep with anybody with power.

I have a vital memory of reading Heart of Darkness early one morning almost before the coffee was ready. This after staying up late watching Apocalypse Now.

I was working through some creative ideas relating to the idea of the wilderness in American culture in preparation for my graduate exams, and about 8:30 p.m. it became essential that I immediately watch the film and read the novel. I had to go rent the movie, and then trot over to a bookstore to buy the novel. There was a line at the video store, so I went to the bookstore first, getting there just before closing but the change in my pocket was short 20 cents (the clerk let me get away with it, as I only had one check left and needed that for the video).

I started Apocalypse Now by 10:00 p.m. and finished reading Heart of Darkness (after a few hours of sleep) before 8:00am. Then, I did not write about either on my exams.
