Germany, they always go further in the World Cup than England (only exception 1966), with home advantage it's nailed on - only Brazil are likely to stop them winning it

I'm sure they'll get far if they take penalties like beckham.

Gary Neville?

Try Ferdinand in central defense and you are not far wrong. Carragher has been playing right back and has been excellent for liverpool. He can make that place his own before the WC.

The only other possible change would be Joe Cole. He is currently a great tallent but loses the ball in dangerous positions. If he gets that out of his game then yes.

Plus Gary Neville tends to play on the right, and not as a centre back.

ASsuming the squad remains injury free...

At some point during the 2006 world cup England will have to play another potentially great team. For 2002 read "Brazil", read "we bottled it".

That will be the crucial game.

If we reach the final having won a game like that we will beat anyone through pure hunger alone. My only exception would be meeting Brazil in the final, I don't think we could beat them in a game that big.

Another potential problem between now and then is that the gutter press may run a witch hunt against a player(s) or Sven's personal life. We don't need that sort of thing from here on in.

I think Joe Cole has learnt a lot from last season, he has cut down on teh tricks and dosent tend to lose the ball anywhere near the ties he used to, hopefully he is a fixture in the team now
