Originally posted by IGII've used many different types of forums, and while these don't have as many features as most they do the job they're required to do. I don't want a forum weighed down with options when all I plan to do is drop in here for 15 minutes after I've finished moving in my games.
One other thing....letting non pawn stars into the forums show them how many people there are that are pawn stars - that are willing to pay, and hopefully it might encourage them to do the same. You are right it is not much that pawn stars have to pay - and it is really worth it.
So i disagree with you.
However........i do think that these forums should b ...[text shortened]... thes forums could be so much better, and it would attract more people to the site imho.

And to davy, if I, when I had first come here, was restricted from posting on the forums I probably wouldn't have even bothered bookmarking the place 😲. I hope RHP stays as free as is humanly possible for all those poor sods without the means to pay straight away (or for *cough* 6 months).

i dont think you should be able to post in the forums ,unless you are a pawn star .when you first come on you should get, say, 30 days ,then you would have to get a star to use the forums. what does everyone else think.
Originally posted by belgianfreakIt seems the last post time and author thereof are available from the thread list in RHP. And RHP threads now show the originator too.
the only advantage I can see from that type of forum is you can see when & who the last post was made from the front screen. What are the others?
The remaining advantages of the PHPBB2 type of forums are:
email thread watching functionality (it can, if you want, email you if a thread you posted to (or are just interested in) is posted to.
BBCodes (though I could happly live without them).
At least, thats all I can see
Not much really.
.
the nation states forum is quicker for me that this one actually......that could be anything mind you. Also nation states is probably a bad example because there are so many people on it.....i have never seen BB's that big before.
What is better....about phpbb22 other than what you mentioned?
more user friendly....you can change the styles of the forum for yourself (ie the background colour and theme of the BB)
You can see who is online. Russ introduced the green blob to indicate that someone has been online within the last ten minutes.....phpbb indicates who is online right now....and you dont need to go searching for the blob - it tells you on the main page who is there.
There is a search function so you can search for text in old threads etc (i dunno if this one has a search function offhand - apologies if it does...i havent used it)
There is a very easy messaging system - sorry but i dont think the messaging system on RHP is particularly user friendly. I didnt even know about it until i joined a clan and someone messaged me. (and i have been here for about 10 months now - i am not really a newbie.
Much more choice of smileys (if thats your thing - i personally hate smileys but some appreciate having hundreds to choose from)
Easy polls....i dont even know if there is a poll option here.
Easy code.....nowhere on this BB have i seen descriptions of how to make a link, make text bold or italic or whatever......if you are not a regular BB user then yu wouldnt know. On phpbb2 (and most other BB's these days) you can do that with one click of your mouse.
I sound like i work for them or something - i dont. I just use a lot of BB's and have done for years, and i am sorry but this one is old. It does the job that is needed - which is fine, but it is really falling behind the times......but i also know people are scared of change sometimes.
OK - so you all hate me now probably for saying something on this site isnt great.....i apologise to those that make this place work...i am not having a go - christ if i didnt like it here i wouldnt have paid to be a pawn star - i love this place.....but the forums is something that has always bugged me, and i thought it was time to mention it - its not as if i expect anyone to do anything about it....just trying to say there are more things out there which might appeal to more people....i guess it depends what your aims are.
again apologies if i just hurt anyones feelings - that is not my intention.

You mean you can do BB codes on this forum???
I'll try it out, but as I see a bold in your last post, I have to assume its possible...
hmm... what about Hello world!
Granted not a great one.
Better: a neat link to [url=http://www.redhotpawn.com/profile/playerprofile.php?uid=33136] my profile[/url]
And PS: you can do searches. But if you don't often use the forums, then why would you know?
And by all means make constructive critisism. Its welcome, not unwanted!
Edit: well, looks like the URL BB Code doesn't work!

only a thought
Given that RHP is both a world-wide community, but also a fee-payer for Russ there is a conflict of interest to some extent.
However, most of us in the rich first world do seem to pay up sooner or later. And those in the RHP community with a lack of disposable dollers, perhaps from non-first world, or unemployed, youngsters, pensioners or the the mearly curious, all enliven the community and are thus worthwhile regarless of whether they can afford to pay. It can be a difficult concept to accept, but $14 in Mozambique is a HELL of a lot of money.
Basically, i'd summarise by saying I pay, but i wouldn't if I couldn't play and chat with a good variety of people who are by and large good examples of humanity, ragrdless of nationality, background age or whatever.
