But it's a gimmick that works.

also, FreeRice claims not to make a profit, so presumably the operator could be charged with fraud if he is making a profit. innocent until proven guilty, i say.
non-profit agencies throw huge black-tie fundraisers for the biggies, and pay out huge salaries, and remain non-profit per the regulations.

but this guy isn't even a non-profit. he isn't registered as a non-profit. he says he'd have to publish his books in that case, and we'll just have to trust him.

Bottom line: Does he use some of the money made from this site to help feed the hungry?

bottom line: if he took in a profit of several hundred thousand or several million or whatever over several months, spent $100K on rice and kept the rest for himself, would you defend him?

For every word you get right, 20 grains of rice are donated toward ending world hunger. Help people out.
Time for a reality check... nothing is free. There are invariably semi

visible or invisible strings. And I'm not a cynical guy, but a realist.

Bottom line zeeblebot: he is doing a hell of a lot more than you are for this cause.

i don't feel any guilt at all. my motivation to help springs from sympathy alone.

Maybe I'm interpreting your posts wrong, but you seem to be trying to discourage people from helping, no matter how small of a part they may be doing.

10 x $5 x 0.60 = $30

you'd have to work 600 hours on freerice.com to match that!

as already explained, freerice is a LEISURE ACTIVITY, that is fun, educational, and just happens to result in rice being given to the poor. it's not appropriate to compare it to digging ditches. you don't 'work' 10 hours on freerice - you play the game for as long as you feel like, and at the end of the day you've killed a little time and made some rice for the hungry. why can't you grasp that?

the choice for most people is not 'will i play freerice or will i go out digging ditches?', but 'will i play freerice or will i play chess/xbox/watch tv etc?'

What about 100 people playing freerice? What about 1,000? It adds up. I'm sure the starving family in Africa that gets to eat tonight isn't complaining about it.
