[b]Friendly Opinion Game (FOG)
In my honest opinion, most all games are essentially mind games (professional sports, octagon fighting, horseshoes, high spirited conversation, high stakes poker, chess, etc.). An obvious yet incredibly underrated strategy appears to be the concentrated focus on breaking an opponent's will to fight, by gradually ...[text shortened]... l interest and in good taste is fair game.

Let me ask you a million dollar question, if you could leave only one piece of advice to the rest of mankind and it can only contain one point, what would that advice be?

Yes.

Matter.

I am interested in what you say about breaking opponents down. It doesn't seem a particularly friendly approach. At the very least it requires opponents who are paranoid. The arachnid patience and implicit cruelty are creepy.

I am only pulling your leg, I know what you meant.
Originally posted by Bosse de NageAgree with your opening sentence. Your second sentence suggests tiddlywinks, spin the bottle or weekly lottery tickets (none of which qualify for various though nebulous reasons). Third sentence seems to convey 'the nature of competition and winning or losing'. You prefer bludgeoning? Fourth intrudes Harvard precious, 'particularly friendly'. Conversational chess games only qualify? Fifth presumes to establish a categorical imperative of paranoia, which is present in some percentage of human beings in trace measures only. Your last sentence inadvertently extols the virtue of patience but then proceeds to reveal your bleeding heart mentality and soft posture with respect to winning with the phrase, "... and implicit cruelty are creepy." You a soldier or a nursemaid?

Ouch!

Woodgie, Sir Bosse and I have been almost friends since mid-2008. Believe we
still understand our mutual tolerances and continue to learn from each other.
Also, with respect to games, you get a pretty good idea of a persons true nature by observing how they play the game.
Edit: losing can sometimes be pretty effective.

rather than Lord Tennyson's notion of prayer (though prayer may well be second).
