My parents had a Rottweiler that I once saw swallow a rat.

I was walking to an outside room at my folks' place and startled a pretty big rat. The rat made a run for it, but only made it almost to the top of the 5 foot chain-link fence before Sasha was onto it.
She jumped up the fence and got it, came down and only the rat's bottom half was sticking out her mouth. She then kinda opened her mouth and just swallowed it.
There was no chewing, nothing. Just a big swallow.

It was the craziest thing I ever saw a dog do...

Interesting. Did you see it come out the other end? I was in the kitchen with my mum years ago and we saw my grandparents dog in the garden trying to take a poop but it was making this weird movement with her back, sort of arching it then dropping, arching then dropping. I went out to investigate and i saw that the last little bit had cassette tape attached to it. I obliged her by stepping on the end, at which point she walked off, still attached! I followed her, stepping on the tape as we went. Turns out she'd eaten the whole thing! I over came my disgust at the thought of grabbing it and pulled the remaining few meters out (with a few timely yelps from said pooch) but encountered a slight problem when we reached the plastic central wheel that the tape winds round. Got it out in the end, but the dog took a while to like me after that... 😉

No, but I did watch her carefully for a few weeks after that. I never saw any rat in her 'product', because my dad has a vigilant gardener...
I later convinced myself that the two of them had fallen into some strange symbiotic relationship. She was a little bit of a greedy eater and was a little overweight, so I saw in my minds' eye: dog eats too much nice food, rat helps out.
