Re-read the original post.
I think boycotting is the only thing that will lower prices. The problem that you have though, PK, is that soccer moms in their SUVs will go and buy gas at Exxon/Mobile anyway because their rich husbands are paying.

Lets say A & B supply 40% of the fuel. They get boycotted. This leaves C, D, E and F who supply 60% of fuel with 100% of the consumers, meaning that they are now unable to cope with demand.
As C, D, E and F realise they now have an overdemand they have two options
1. Increase their prices to try and slow down the demand or
2. Buy in extra supplies from a third party.
As demand increases and supply diminishes prices will rise.
To meet the demand C, D, E and F have to buy from a third party, namely A & B, who are able to command a higher price since they have a product that is in short supply and large demand.
End result everyone pays more.

In fact gas is far too cheap. Why drive 2t four wheel drive vehicles to the city??? Just to show off? Say 100$/gallon would be a fair price
Originally posted by MissOleumActually, couldnt we tax it based on what car you own. Because I myself have a fairly small and economic car, but theres no way in hell that i can pay 100 per gallon, nor is there no way in hell im riding my bike to work. There could be like a teir system where cars of my size, or hybrids and better have "good" gas prices while the gas guzzeling tanks that alot of people drive could have the $100 tax.... 🙂

If most of you would quit driving ALL forms of motorized transportation, consumption would reduce, prices would fall, pollution would decrease and I wouldn't have to listen to all of these bleeding heart liberal whiners spewing their garbage. The fact is, until they come up with a better energy source to power transportation, we are stuck with gasoline and ethanol. Electric, wind, solar are all partially viable, but not the long haul solution. Nuclear would work, but then you open up a new can of worms with disposal of the nuclear remains after the half life sets in. Steam is making a resurgance, but I am not sure it is going to be viable for a while. Everyone has his/her idea of what will work but here is a clue...you had better figure out how to control the huge population growth or all of this becomes moot. If China and India continue with asymtotic growth rates, the earth will run out of all of its resources. Food, potable water, energy, medicines...the entire enchilada. So you had better focus on the number one enemy....population growth.

This is not about saving the planet, its about saving money. Trust me, the planet will survive gasoline.

Europe has been getting screwed for years as have the other parts of the world. The US has been the leading producer of gasoline worldwide, but the US has never felt the price burden they have elsewhere in the world. The gasoline companies want the US to pay them as handsomely as they have been accustomed to everywhere else and it is pissing the US consumers off. If the consumers quit consuming, or slowed consumption down drastically, the price will drop. Unfortunately, no one seems willing to do without, they just bite their lips, pay for it and gripe.

Regarding the statement that gas used to be cheaper and now it is way too expensive, can you tell me any service that is not more expensive now than it was years ago (i.e. telephone - land line, cable tv, security monitoring, etc...)? They might reduce due to economies of scale, but the second demand approaches or exceeds supply, the price is going to go up. Whining about it won't change it.

Can your post stand up by itself, it looks pretty lame.
