Where I'm from it tends to, yes.

Stees, Regent Park is undergoing a massive teardown, re-imaging at the moment but, yes, it is still a very bad area.
Originally posted by darvlayI was "travelling" through there about 30 years ago and dropped my wallet. A "gentleman" picked it up and returned it to me. I think I had about $10.00 in it and all my important papers. I gave him the $10.00. He thanked me and offered me a pull from his paper bag. I thanked him but declined and he wished me a good evening and I said and to you. It was a very "dodgey" area then but I never felt in any danger. Years later it may have been different.

Oh, so you are talking about subsidised housing? Is co-op housing generally subsidised housing in Canada?

It used to be public housing but now it is Co-Op. The way I understand it, co-op housings get government subsidies in Canada because they are geared for low-income households, immigrants, etc.
The area is not that bad, I guess. Certainly not as bad as other areas. I mean, I wouldn't go hanging out there at night but I wouldn't be afraid to walk through it either. Once I did see a guy getting beat up with a baseball bat, which was a bit unnerving. Kensington market, one of Toronto's coolest neighbourhoods, is right around the corner.

I have, actually. And I think I'll probably make that investment this weekend. I know one of these times, I won't be so lucky.
