Where Words Live and Breathe
Language is always evolving. Words can change meaning over time, or disappear, as new words are born. Case in point: Merriam-Webster recently added 690 words including bussin’, doomscroll, and TTYL. And somewhere, Noah Webster smiled. Webster, born 265 years ago today, believed that spelling and grammar should be based upon the living, spoken language, rather than rules. He published America’s first dictionary in 1828, giving U.S. English a dignity and vitality all its own.
