Not everybody is in the Northern hemisphere.
We had snow over portions of the country - remember, some people in SA have never even seen snow before...
Thanks for reminding me that some people are actually enjoying sunshine at the moment ðŸ˜
I have found that where I live it rarely snows, yet I have traveled to places that had mountains of snow on the ground and it actually felt much warmer because of the reflective benefit that snow has and the fact that there was no chilling wind. I can't imagine how people live in extreme cold all their lives. It must really make you cranky and evil.

Astrological summer is not universally accepted as summer. See Nordlys' earlier post...
10C? How arbitrary can you possibly get? I doubt if it gets down to 10C where I live all year. Well, maybe for a couple of days in winter.
That's just ridiculous.
Originally posted by SuzianneThe point is that your definition doesn't make any more sense than anyone else's. What would make the most sense is to call the six weeks before and after June 21st summer, with June 21st (the solstice) being the peak of summer since it's when the sun peaks in the sky. Calling that the beginning means you're heading back into the shorter days - not very summery. Same thing for winter, then just make the rest of the year spring and autumn. Every country just arbitrarily decides which factors they are going to use to define the seasons, but there is generally some reason for it. My original argument was that the date that someone had chosen to wish everyone a happy summer seemed not to fit any of the criteria I was aware of - Nordlys set me straight though. Just because you say it's not summer, doesn't mean it isn't.
