Hassel is a complete joke! I kicked his backside in one clan game and am currently doing the same in our second clan game, so half way through all of a sudden, he accuses me of being a cheat and im now on the black list and the draw offer starts coming out! He has now followed that up by saying, ok your not a cheat, but I wont be playing you or your clan again, we dont like people like you. Obviously he dosnt like people who play of a higher standard than him, which considering his suspect game history, really isnt hard. Not that its any of his business, but ive playing chess for over 25 years and regularly beat the computer, my mate said this site was great and very addictive, but im beginning to wonder why I bothered. I didnt come on this site to start taking abuse off this joker!!! ðŸ˜
I think Hessel didn't quite think it through before accusing you - he probably didn't take into account that your rating is provisional, with less than 5 games played, which means that it's unlikely to reflect your true skill. Just a guess, but maybe he looked at your rating, saw your clear superiority in the games against him, and concluded that no 1200 player could play like that without assistance. Which is of course correct. Only that you are clearly not a 1200 player.
Accusations like that should not be thrown around lightly, but unfortunately there are some people who just have a difficult time grasping that there are other people that can play really well. Don't let it bother you too much - accusations like that thrown around on dubious grounds never reflect badly on the one beeing acused.
The site truly is great, by far the best chess site I've found. Considering how many people play here, unlucky incidents such as yours are relatively rare. I'd like to see a site that can put as many people as here together and NOT have some people upseting others.
I would still ask Hessel what he ment by not wanting to play "people like you" though - if he retracted his cheating accusations, as he clearly should, then what other criteria makes you the "kind" of a player he does not want to play? Does he mean people with provisional ratings, people that are better than him in chess, people he owes an appology to or what?
Anyway, if one clan decides not to play yours, that's not much of a loss - there are still 123 more to choose from... 🙂

Planet Earth challenged my clan, here is what I messaged the leader of said clan.....
I'm sure this is an easy way for my clan to get some extra points, but I can't think of one member of my clan that would like to be called a cheater.
No Way.

No, I did not have to... I guess I just did.
I don't know why I just went out of my way to make a new enemy... as if the Yankees were not enough of one... I just made a new one I am sure.

What it comes down to is Hessel just being desperate for a draw in a very lost position. I have played him in 8 tournament games, he offered draws in every single one of them. I learned to ignore them. I won 7 of those games and only one was truely a draw. I think we just have to accept he will do this and move on.

I had a similar experience and am confused. I'm not making any judgements or accusations (yet) so maybe somebody could fill me in. This is the first message I have ever posted but I need clarification here. This is what happened: Hessel and I were playing 2 games. I was clearly winning one and he was clearly winning the other. He offered a draw on the game he was losing and I accepted. Then he offered a draw on the other game. I thought that was dumb and declined it, then realised that he was trying to be a good sport and then accepted. Well, now I'm upset beacuse he had a lower rating than me so my score went down for BOTH draws. I did not know your score went down with draws. Would my rating have been affected better or worse if I would have just won one then lost the other?
Originally posted by ThorneI think you should have accepted the draw in only one of the games - the one where you were loosing. If someone offers you a draw in a possition where they are winning, that's their mistake. If they do so in order to get you to accept a draw "in turn" in another game where you were winning, that's should also be their mistake. 😀 It would not have been unsporting in any way to accept only the other draw, the one where you were loosing.

As to how ratings are calculated, if you draw or loose against a lower rated opponent, your rating will drop. How much depends on the difference between your ratings.
There's a rating calculator to be found at http://www7.brinkster.com/obyrne/rhp_rc.htm that you can use to see what would happen to your rating in different eventualities. I'd love to give credit for whoever made it, but I can't for the life of me remember who it was 😳. Sorry! May the culprit come forth and identify her/himself! 🙂
