As a young teen I used to sneak out through my BR window but eventually gave up on the idea that something interesting might happen.

Perhaps had you continued just a bit longer something "interesting would have happened. Kinda like saying, "OK one more run down the ski slope." and on that "last" run you break a leg/ankle/arm/something. 🤔
