One of the chicks has died. My my wife is in bits now thanks....!
At CRC we've had Great Horned Owl babies and Barn Owl babies so far. The orphaned or displaced babies that we get starts to pick up this month and into June.
Originally posted by divegeesterAll birds, and it doesn't matter whether it's a sparrow, eagle, or ostrich, grow to adult size within 3 months. They grow at a fantastic rate. It is a reason why bone breaks when they are nestlings is often fatal; the bone is growing too fast to properly calcify over a break. Birds have to be able to fly or be of adult size to leave the nest and the sooner they are ready the better their chances of survival are (or so they have evolved, it would appear).
They grow so fast! Be interesting to see the moment they leave the nest.
