By conventional standards there are seven continents: Europe, Asia, Africa, North America, South America, Australia/Oceania, and Antarctica. Some scientists add an eighth, Zealandia, most of which is under water in the South Pacific. Zealandia's area is nearly 2 million square miles (5 million square kilometers) — about half the size of Australia.
