Here's how I interpret your interpretation.

Samdoog is an 18 year old male from the United States who has made over 700 moves on this site. He obviously knows the rules and concepts of the game of Chess. He must be aware that Chess is played on a "board" and that when one plays chess he is positioned "over" the board.

So my interpretation is that you believe Samdogg is a complete bungling fool, in which case I must say that that is not very nice, ChessNut! I can only imagine what your opinion is of the United States' educational system...

Ahh Hah! But you forgot to interpret the fact that it is not even a complete sentence. Which will nullify all other attempts at logically supporting your initial interpretation and will require a re-interpretation using the new facts.

As my keen intellect has been honed by the US edubicational cistem I feel it is completely and unequivocably... mediocre. Spank you very much. 😉

Not much, just sucking wind since my Sox just got taken out with a walk-off homer by Jeeter, Gah! At least my fantasy team seems to be doing ok.

Oh, and I was able to edit my post with one word added... making you WrOnG!

It means quite the opposite of under the board walk.

Under the board walk, that's where I'll be.

Under the board walk, playing OTB.

Under the board walk, board walk!

An interesting theory which I must confess is substantiated by much evidence in the sentence structure. HOWEVER, he did not really ask your second assumption of "what Over the Board means." His precise use of the English language was, and I quote: "I know OTB mean Over the Board but what is an OTB?"

THEREFORE, we now must use our combined knowledge and logical deduction to find out "WHAT IS AN OTB"!? and, WHAT DOES IT MEAN!?

Hence all previous arguements and conclusions can be declared wrong and/or inaccurate and now we must launch a new, scientific investigation into the field of OTB's! 😲

'...an OTB' Hmmm? What is AN OTB? That's kinda like asking why is there air? I see what you mean Arrakis. However there is a flaw in your interpretation.

I quote, "His precise use of the English language.." Two problems here. The word precise and the word English. If it was English it surely wasn't precise and if it was precise, it couldn't be English. Maybe it's a form of higher communication. We should see if there is a code in the sentence structure. 😉

I had to ask what OTB meant a while ago (although by the context used I guessed what the implication was), I wouldn't say everyone knew what it meant, especially those new to internet chess.

OK - my 2c?

The last word of the thread title was "cut off". It should have been

"I know OTB mean Over the Board but what is an OTB RATING?"

Samdogg appears to have gone on vacation, so cannot enlighten us as to the missing word. Several thoughts occur:

1. He has probably gone on vacation to get away from this forum thread.
2. Even before he went on vacation, he seemed to prefer to leave us in the dark, so we may never know.
3. "Rating" is a perfectly reasonable possibility, but is the result of pure speculation. The OED lists 171,476 words, over half of which are nouns, so we can reasonably assume that there are at least 85,738 possibilities other than "rating".
4. "Gorilla" is one. What is an OTB gorilla? I think I know; I think I would beat it at chess; I think there's a fair chance it would then rip my head off, rendering the victory somewhat hollow.
5. "Board" is another. An OTB board suggests 3D chess, which perhaps a trekkie would like to tell us more about in some other thread.
6. "Pancake" is yet another. This seems unlikely to be what Samdogg was asking about, but I like pancakes so I thought I'd mention it. Some more people who like pancakes can be found at http://bcn.boulder.co.us/~lenzk/pancakes.html
7. It's probably best that I not keep speculating one word at a time any longer. There are still over 85,735 possibilities.
