I'm a bit of a sci-fi purist so I doubt it's the sort of movie I'd voluntarily go and watch. I hated Dune (spaghetti sci-fi and the first movie I ever walked out of), didn't enjoy Star Wars and neither Star Trek. That genre of sci-fi movies I think should parody themselves. Ever seen Repo Man or Dark Star, for example?
For proper sci-fi I prefer Alien/s, Blade Runner, Mad Max (yeah, that fits into the genre) etc.
I gave it a 7/10. It was entertaining but not true enough to the book for my taste. I was especially bummed by how the aliens were portrayed. Possibly the best part of the book in my opinion was when the narrator was describing the aliens and how and why they had come to have the form they had...the aliens in the movie were totally uninteresting.

I like the scene in the basement with the aliens; very reminiscent of the raptor-kitchen scene in Jurassic Park.
