Any interesting thoughts from anybody?
I actually just had to write a practice argument for an AP English test - the argument given was "Properous people should donate all money not needed for the basic necessities of living to overseas foundations like UNICEF."

The argument essay format that I've learned is generall setup into three paragraphs:

Opening - Identifying the argument

Body - Arguing it, do you agree or disagree? Why or why not? Cite specific examples and knowledge that you've learned in school - in my essay I wasn't given anything but that question and one quote - I used the quote in the introduction because that's where it fit, so in the body I used my own knowledge of Communism vs. Capitalism and cited examples where communism has failed - ie. Russia, China, Cuba.

Conclusion - Don't start this with "In conclusion" a sheet I was using for help suggested using "Clearly" though I think that comes off a little...lame. Anyhow, name the audience and the argument, and describe the "So what" of your argument - why is yours better than the one given, or why does the one given work.

Everything I've heard is use first person sparingly, but it shouldn't be hard to avoid the first person, what grade are you in? Or are you in college now?

Yes, but I DO know how to spell "naive" - what's that say about you?

Oh, well that might make it more complex - I can't write in spanish for crap, and I can only write well in german when compared to retards in my class. Obviously it's all in third person...

I'd post my essay up here, but it was written in class and I don't have it back yet. Even if I did, I wouldn't retype all three pages...

If you're typing it post it here, I'll look at it and help with some things you might miss (assuming it's your second/third/fourth language) I'm sure other people here would have no problem criticizing it either...

However, I must admit that American students are clearly more creative and are very goot at BS.

Looks like you just didn't know how to spell it...I could use big words too but I don't like to pretend to be better than everybody else. 😛

BS is my specialty...

I should probably add that it doesn't work in AP classes or on AP tests though, so I assume it doesn't work in decent colleges.

I figured...I'd post it up here for people to edit - though I'd be wary at the same time since I could imagine a lot of people would put up bad criticism.

What are your first two languages?

Ohhhhhhh, is the blood flow now moving faster through your veins? Can you feel the difference in your pulse rate or are you only aware of your written response? How interesting. . . .
