Your analogy fails because those nations are not asking for packed lunches, nor will they solve the problem.

Explaining a rule of chess might, however, help someone who wants to know that rule.

A better analogy would be: a person is dying of thirst. You stand there sipping from your ice-cold water, telling them to go and find a copy of "How to Build a Well".

No. My analogy "fails" because you're too dumb to comprehend it. That's obvious.

He's asking others to explain ONE of the rules right now. In all probability, he'll shortly ask for an explanation of another. And then another...

That's the problem. He doesn't know the rules. That's why my suggestion of putting a little effort into learning all the basic rules at the same time is much more helpful. He'll then be able to play each of his games with the knowledge he needs, rather than many games suffering a disadvantage.

This isn't cruelty, as you seem to imply. It's common sense.

Wrong. He clearly has a grasp of most of the rules. He is asking about a specific rule which many beginners have a problem with. Therefore you are clearly too dumb to understand your own analogy.

And even if he did know none of the rules, so what? Why do you feel the need to post in response to such threads?

It is cruelty, or if not cruelty then something equally reprehensible - trying to make someone feel foolish to bolster your reputation on a chess website. Only you are also too dumb to understand _that_.

Be glad that you don't know, then. You wouldn't want to be damned, would you?

Zugzwang (German for: compulsion to move) occurs when one player is put at a disadvantage because he has to make a move - the player would like to pass and make no move, but the fact that they must make one means they are forced into weakening their position.

It's like when you're on a long car trip and you have to pull over to move your bowels. You'd prefer not to, because pulling over results in a loss of time. On the other hand, there's no denying the call of nature.

I was expecting the link to reveal God's little known 11th commandment, "Thou shalt not ask about the rules of chess on a chess website".

But all I got was pages and pages of you spouting the same nonsense.
