That's a good question. The why I mean.
The answer is that the influence of Christianity on western culture is far-reaching and pervasive. The British national anthem is "God Save the Queen," for instance.
Countries wanted to believe that their country was blessed by God or providence.
Of course, what you are probably asking is why hasn't it been changed?
I don't know..probably will be.
take, god save the queen, what if i was a Muslim boy growing up in england and loved the culture i was in, the sports teams, everything. but he's muslin he doesn't have this christian god that's saving his queen, why can't his Muslim god save his queen?

Because of the use of the word "god" as opposed to "Allah" does that exclude muslims?
Like the royal family, the anthem is vestigal.
The US has been moving in that direction for some time...I'm sure we'll remove references to God on our money sometime in the not too distant future.
