Well said.
I took an I.Q test once, don't feel the need to reveal my score because it obvoiusly doesn't make me a better chess player!

IQ tests are a good measure of mental speediness rather than intelligence. Freddy is right: there is a correlation between success in certain fields and possessing a high IQ.

I do have grave concerns about the eugenicist nature of IQ testing at the same time and I wouldn't make judgements about anyone based on IQ. A friend of mine told me he scored 106, which was average. He now has done some pioneering work in the research of Bovine TB and currently lectures. I would classify him as a deep thinker and someone who may not score well on a test that measures speed of response.

Also, the scores posted here mean little until it is known which test you actually did.

For example the Mensa test has 148 as representing the top two percent whereas the test that was used in the British educational system has 130 denoting those in the top two percent. So, the percentile score is more revealing.

Actually, Mensa doesn't use a specific IQ test. They will allow you membership even without taking an IQ test if you score in the top 2% of most standardized tests (for example, the SAT). IQ tests are supposed to be normalized to an average of 100 with a standard deviation of 15. This will put 96% of the population at between 70 and 130, or 2% at or above 130 and 2% at or below 70. Hence, membership requires a minimum of 130 for entry - I don't know where you got the 148 figure, but that's incorrect.

I'm pretty Dumb, My official IQ test was 93, but maybe that was due to the fact that my tester was very new, (I was the her first victim) Online test indicate I'm about at 113

My brother is way higher then me on IQ test, but on a "common sense test" I am way ahead of him

Yeah, well, don't count yourself as dumb. First of all, an IQ of 93 would put you at about 40th percentile in the population - i.e., you would have a higher IQ than about 40% of the population. More importantly, people with a less than average IQ are not "dumb", they just don't do well on IQ tests. That's one of the dangers of IQ testing - people tend to live up (or down) to expectations, and unfortunately people who are told they have low IQs then have low expectations of themselves. There are many extremely successful people in almost any walk of life that have "below average" IQs, and I don't think most people would consider them dumb.

When my daughter was 6 yrs old I took her to see the sites at Railroad Junction. I was remarried at the time and it became evident to me that my new wife did not like my daughter. 🙁 I think it was because she realized that the little girl was smarter than her...

Anyways, we rode the train and afterwards we were walking though the park, which involved crossing the railroad tracks. Suddenly Cheryl (my 6 yr old daughter) dropped to her knees and felt the rails. I asked her, "What are you doing?" and she replied, "Oh, just testing dad. I figure these rails should be warm from the train moving over them." 😲

Yeah, she had inherited her great looks from her mother... and her intellegence from me. 🙂
