Bagging ? Is that even a real word (in that context, of course) ?
Yes. Sorry, American slang getting mixed up with the Irish slang...

I believe the fada can only go one way... Though I'm not even remotely knowledgeable when it comes to the Irish language.

I don't think there is a fada in slainte.

The fada's purpose is to elongate the sound and slainte has a short e sound.

I think. I dropped Irish when I was 13.

I did spell it wrong, it should be "slàinte." I think - maybe I'm wrong again...

Edit - and I never learned Irish in the first place, just what I've managed to pick up myself.

I just checked my NODE and it has it as slainte with no fada but my Irish dictionary has it as sláinte. Since the sound over the a is accented in the pronounciation I would suspect that the NODE's version is incorrect.

Nuts. Wrong again - I was close but stuck the wrong direction accent in there.

Ther are some really strange responses to threads recently. I'm sure people post the first thing that comes into their head so as not to be forgotten. For your info Nordlys is super at many languages, as you are well aware. So why post a boring comment?

I'm getting bored of meaningless posts........

I'm at work. Anything is entertaining. I don't have to censor myself for weak humour as well as foul language now, do I?

I was far from doubting - Irish is just a bit of an odd one, so I was taken a bit off guard to have my horrible Irish spelling corrected... More in awe now than ever.
