It's worth it if you intend to use the site a lot.
If i devided my Subscription by the amount of time i actualy spent on the site, i'd say it was a steal. But then again, i used to work nightshift, and sit at my PC for hours.

You missed off Tournaments and Siege boards too.

$30, that's only a little more than $2 a month - less than the cost of a beer!
Is there a better bargain out there?
Yeah, you can pay to be kicked out of a Tournament by someone +150 points over the rating band or to sit in a queue for 6 months waiting for a Siege to start.

I'm guessing you're a "glass is half empty" kind of person....

I rarely play tournaments and I have never played a siege, but the tournaments I have played have been fun. As they were all unbanded, obviously I didn't run into the sandbagger problem, although I also never had any realistic chance to win, but you can set it as your goal just to get to the next round. I especially like thematic tournaments (have played one and am currently waiting for another one to start).

But for me, the best reason to subscribe, apart from unlimited games, are the clans. Being part of a clan makes it much easier to get games against players with a similar playing strength. Some clans also play in the Clan Leagues, which can be a lot of fun (although it will also give you quite a game load, which is why I now avoid it). And the private forums can also be quite worthwhile - that depends on the clan, of course.

I've never palyed on another site, but I see no reason to. Sor what you get, I think RHP is great. Are there clans and seiges on other sites? What makes RHP unique, if anything?

Where's Wulebgr when you need him?

Ah, here: http://www.angelfire.com/poetry/wulebgr/comp.htm

Edit: The section "Database Functions" needs to be updated for RHP - with the Games Explorer, it's now possible to search for positions, and you can also annotate games there.

Okay, but to spare me the effort of doing a thurough investigation, how does it stack up against RHP?

it would help the coherence of your post greatly if you at least peeked at the link you're asking about.

The link offers reviews of many sites. I rate one other site higher than RHP, and pay at both. RHP has the most active and open forums, hands down, and arguably the best team play.

I am a new subscriber, and keep in mind it is 30.00 American so what ever the exchange is, but still a good deal...You get to play unlimited games, which some get carried away with, but I guess that is up to them. I like the idea you can enter the tournaments, and see how you match up against tournament players. So I would say YES, it is indeed worth it!!!

-no ads
-clans
-unlimited games
-ability to have an avatar

anything else?

it seems like a pretty good site. i've played on many others, but have never subscribed to one.

just looking for some feedback, that's all. thanks.

I'd be willing to wager that most of those who subscribe consider it well worth it.

either that or they like throwing their money away.
