The truth of the matter is no one really knows! There are suppose to be secret game mods, who I suspect are the onese we have had all along.

only thing I can think of is to just run your game thru an engine itself and compare your opponents moves with that of the computer. See how they compare. Some computers will play differently but there are lots of times the computer will only think a certain way. I dont people here would cheat anyways, the greatest joy in chess comes from losing and learning.
