The calgary stampede is a yearly rodeo put on in Calgary AB. Last year it had just over one million people come through the gates. I'm taking my children down there this coming Wed.
Animal rights activists are going beserk over the death of nine horses. It was a tragic accident and I'm sure the owners of those horses are just as horified at this unfortunate mishap. I believe one horse also collapsed due to the heat.
The horses got spooked on their run through town and jumped over a bridge into the Bow (sp?) river. If anyone here is familiar with rodeos and farm life in general then you should also know the time, money and resources that go into these animals. They are very well cared for.
So should this one unsettling occurace impact my decision to not attend the rodeo? No. I don't believe it should. I'm looking forward to the chuck wagon races, calve roping, bare back riders and even the mutton busting.
Alberta is founded on farming and rural events. Alot of men earn their living through rodeos and I don't believe they should be condemed for animal abuse by people who don't even understand the extent of care in which these animals receive.

"Mutton Busting" is perverse though , and should be stopped . I don't care if it's the cowboy way or how long you've been doing it . It's sick and wrong .
