okies. america. land of the free. and to pass a class, you have to sign a peice of paper saying you won't smoke. america. land of the ...[text shortened]... he free. the world leader in locking people up! america. land of the oppressed. sorry, free...
You can pray in school if you like... but a teacher can't make it part of the class... not everyone in the US wants to pray. Separation of Church and State is very important to me…. Why should some Hindu or Muslim need to listen to or be forced to participate in a Christian Prayer? Anyone can pray to anyone they like between classes, or silently at there desk as long as it does not disturb the rest of the students.

As for getting locked up in the US, don't do the crime if you can't do the time.

There are rules to live by everywhere, and any of us are FREE to leave the USA if we don't want to follow the rules. We are FREE to stand on the corner on a soapbox if we so desire, and talk about anything we like. Some countries don't let you do that. No police officers will take me off my box unless I am ranting nude and using foul language.

Not sure how old remora is, but you need to be 18 to smoke in the USA... so if she is under 18, she shouldn't smoke. And guess what, she can smoke if she wants, just as long as dad doesn't catch her.

So, there are always rules to follow, but I have a lot more freedoms than many other people do around the world. Come on over and visit sometime.

I'm not sure what they decided on the Flag Burning thing.... I personally don't think burning the flag is any help, just make a list of things you don't like about the USA and figure out a way to change them through petitions, contact your rep, etc...

Personally, I would never burn the flag. If someone wants to burn the flag they should be allowed to, I couldn't care less.

Anyone know what the rule is on Flag Burning????

Edit! Also, somone is more likely to get punched in the head or perhaps even shot if they burned a flag in front of the whitehouse... not be subject to a citizen's arrest!! Perhaps nothing would come of it and people would just point at the nut with the burning flag.

The last I heard it was perfectly legal to burn the flag. I would imagine however that it would not be a bright thing to do in front of the White House. 🙁

It was decided in a Supreme Court ruling that I cannot recall the reference for at the mo that flag burning is entirely consistent with freedom of expression, as long as the flag in question is your own property 🙂
I think PJ O'Rouke wrote about the debate in his book 'Republican Party Reptile' - worth reading, may almost make you like Justice Scalia (he used to be vaguely sane).

After that, the flag burners got bored and mostly stopped - nothing like something becoming legal to take all the fun out of it 😕
